Who: Lauren Conrad
Where: The Alice and Olivia shoe launch party
What: Butterfly wrap dress by Alice + Olivia, quilted purse by Chanel, and black pumps by Christian Louboutin
Like so many young twenty-somethings, I’ve grown up with Lauren Conrad. From Laguna Beach to the Hills, I’ve witnessed her style transformation. Although a true Cali girl at heart, Lauren has come a long way from her signature look consisting of tank tops, denim shorts/mini skirts and Havaianas. Today, I most associate her with a look that I like to call “sweet femininity.” Whether she’s wearing a girly skirt and oversized shades or a sleeveless 3.1 Phillip Lim sequined dress (The Hills season 4 finale, remember?), she always looks lovely.
With two clothing lines of her own, Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s and Paper Crown, she clearly knows style. Before Lauren’s collection arrived at Kohl’s, I was never a fan of the store. With the exception of Simply Vera Vera Wang and Elle, none of the department store’s brands fit my style While I had outgrown the junior’s section the clothing for petites was rather…blah. Stuck in limbo, what’s a fashionista such as myself to do? Thanks to Lauren’s collection of cute ruffled tops, darling cardigans and sweet dresses, I have become a Kohl’s regular. And now that she has extended her line to include shoes…I am beyond excited! Although Lauren may not be the biggest fashion risk taker, she does know what works and looks best. Choosing ensembles that are both practical and age appropriate, she is a trendsetter and style icon that girls can look up to.
The key to Lauren’s look: a colorful frock, high balerina bun and a timeless quilted Chanel bag. To complete the look, opt for bright red nails. Très Chic!
While some of the outfits that Lauren has worn for events and premieres in the past have not been my fave, this one is spot on. It’s youthful, charming and perfect for the Alice and Olivia shoe launch party. Keeping her jewelry to a minimum, Lauren lets her painterly dress be the focal point of her ensemble. Although she could have accessorized with a skinny belt, it’s not essential. With such a lively patterned dress, all you really need is a killer pair of heels (Louboutin, anyone?!) and a quilted handbag à la Chanel.
Tip: For those who are self-conscious about their upper arms (I know I am!), look for dresses that have butterfly sleeves.
