Rachel Bilson’s Sophisticated Red Carpet Look for Less

Always red carpet ready, Rachel Bilson dons an effortless, but totally pulled-together ensemble. The combination of bright red trousers, a fantastically floral blouse and leopard print pumps is fun and eye-catching (without going over-the-top!)

Who: Rachel Bilson

Where: The CBS, The CW and Showtime TCA Party

What: Floral blouse and orange-red trousers by Erdem, leopard pumps by Christian Louboutin, black clutch by Giuseppe Zanotti.

Mixing and matching prints is one prevalent runway trend that is here to stay this fall. If you aren’t a fashion risk taker or are prone to making faux pas when it comes to wearing print on print, then this is the post for you! The ensemble worn by Rachel (above) is an excellent example of mixing prints subtly.

By matching her floral blouse (with hints of red-orange posies) to her red-orange trousers, she creates an impeccable outfit that is perfect for casual/semi-formal events. To spice up her look and prevent her ensemble from becoming too matchy matchy, Rachel dons a pair of leopard print pumps. An unexpected print is always a fun way to shake up an otherwise passé or mediocre ensemble (not saying that Rachel’s outfit is boring, because it’s certainly not!) For the final touch, she adds a sleek black clutch, which matches not only her shoes, but also her blouse and trousers.

Two Rules to Keep in Mind when Mixing Prints

Rule #1: If you are going to go print-happy then you MUST keep the color palette of the two prints to a minimum. Remember to select prints that contain similar hues. Wearing more colors than you can handle is never a good idea - what initially starts out as an eccentric and fun outfit can quickly turn into a disaster!

Rule #2: To keep an ensemble from becoming print-overload, wear solid pieces of clothing that will counteract the spontaneity of eclectic and busy patterns. Neutral colors such as black, brown, white, etc. are go-to colors when you want to downplay a pattern-heavy ensemble.

For those of you who want Rachel’s red carpet look for less, I have created a similar outfit via Polyvore. Hope you like it!
